Mali frees 82 soldiers held by militant and rebel groups
Mali's army said 82 soldiers held prisoner since April attacks by al Qaeda-linked JNIM and the Tuareg-led FLA rebel group were freed on Thursday. The FLA claimed responsibility for releasing soldiers taken during clashes between 2023 and 2026, though the army stated they had been held since April 25 attacks that killed the defence minister.
