Maradona's 'Hand of God' football sells for £2.5 million
The ball Diego Maradona punched past goalkeeper Peter Shilton during Argentina's 1986 World Cup quarter-final win over England sold at Heritage Auctions in the United States for £2.5m (US$3.3m), below the expected £7.3m valuation. The ball, which Maradona himself famously described as scored "a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God," was authenticated by the match referee Tunisian Ali Bin Nasser, who kept it for over three decades.
