Forestry Commission

Forestry Commission — state agency leading anti-illegal mining operations and wetland protection enforcement across Ghana's forest reserves and Ramsar sites.

The Forestry Commission led a demolition operation at Sakumono Ramsar Site to remove illegal structures and protect the wetland, though officials acknowledged that some previously demolished structures have been rebuilt. The commission also conducted a pre-dawn anti-galamsey raid in Atewa Range Forest Reserve, arresting 24 suspected illegal miners and destroying mining camps, while its Executive Director called for improved logistics and legal protections after a Resource Guard was fatally shot by a suspected poacher.
