Ghana Journalists Association

Also known as: GJA · GJA-Central

Ghana Journalists Association — advocacy organization for journalists in Ghana, advancing press freedom and professional standards including legal challenges to restrictions on journalism.

The Ghana Journalists Association has announced it will pursue a Supreme Court challenge against what it describes as abuse of the Electronic Communications Act by security agencies targeting journalists over arrests and intimidation under "false communication" provisions, arguing the law is being misapplied to criminalize civil defamation matters. The GJA also praised Ghana's rise to 39th on the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, moving up from 52nd globally and ranking 4th in Africa, attributing the improvement to sustained advocacy and cooperation among stakeholders.
