4th African Women in Philanthropy Conference planned for October 2026

The News

The 4th African Women in Philanthropy Conference, scheduled for October 26, 2026 in Accra, will bring together women leaders and stakeholders to explore ways to strengthen local philanthropy and social investment in Ghana. The event, organised by Ghana Philanthropy Week and Women in Philanthropy Ghana, will focus on six thematic areas including women's leadership, social investment, digital innovation, and mobilising partnerships for the sector.

  1. Wontumi pleads not guilty to amended fraud charges

    Businessman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) pleaded not guilty to amended charges accusing him of causing GH¢30 million financial loss to a public entity through a loan obtained from Ghana EXIM Bank in 2018. The charges were increased from four to five, alleging he obtained GH¢14.3 million under false pretences and used a forged receipt to obtain GH¢4 million in 2017 and 2018.

  1. Court issues arrest warrant for NPP MP in EOCO investigation

    A High Court has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest NPP Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in connection with investigations into his law firm's representation of SIC Life Savings and Loans. EOCO claimed it had exhausted reasonable means of securing the MP's voluntary attendance and feared documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.

  1. Two Ada SHS students convicted for assault after social media video

    Oscar Amemasor, 20, and Emmanuel Senunya, 18, students of Ada Senior High Technical School, were convicted by Ada West District Court after initially pleading not guilty then changing their plea to guilty on charges of assault and abetment of assault. The court ordered them to sign a 12-month bond to be of good behaviour following a video surfacing in May showing one brandishing a cutlass and threatening fellow students.

  1. High Court denies bail to nurse in Ghana Jollof case

    A High Court in Accra has refused bail for Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a Techiman-based Senior Nursing Officer accused of aiding Barbara Asantewaa Kodua (Ghana Jollof) to circulate false publications online. Justice Halima El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit cited the cyber-related nature of the investigation and the likelihood of interference with ongoing investigations.

    A US District Court judge has ordered prosecutors to give the defence team of Frederick Kumi (Abu Trica), charged alongside Daniel Yussif in an alleged $8 million romance scam, access to sealed materials including search warrant affidavits and related documents. Abu Trica, extradited to the United States in July, faces up to 20 years in prison; his trial is scheduled for September 2026.

    A High Court in Accra has scheduled July 3, 2026 to deliver judgment in the trial of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), who is accused of facilitating unlicensed mining on his Akonta Mining Company Limited's Samreboi concession without ministerial approval.     Prof. Kwesi Yankah has criticized Chief of Staff Julius Debrah for apologizing on behalf of Ghana Free Zones Authority CEO Dr. Mary Awusi's comments toward a Church of Pentecost leader, saying government should instead focus on environmental pollution and illegal mining.
