Social Security and National Insurance Trust

Also known as: SSNIT

Social Security and National Insurance Trust — financial institution providing pension scheme registration and mortgage financing, including housing fund partnerships and hostel accommodation management.

SSNIT has been established as a partner in a GH¢3 billion revolving housing fund announced by President Mahama to provide mortgages for public sector workers including teachers, nurses, and doctors. Separately, the organization faced criticism from the Acting Rent Commissioner over accommodation charges at Pentagon Hostel, which were described as exploitative, with some rooms costing between GH¢6,000 and over GH¢30,000 per semester.

Heath Goldfields pays GH¢139 million in Bogoso-Prestea worker arrears

The News

Heath Goldfields has paid over GH¢139 million to workers at the Bogoso-Prestea mine since taking over operations in late 2024, prioritising settlement of salary arrears inherited from the previous operator Future Global Resources. The company inherited nearly $87 million in liabilities including more than $25 million owed to workers, and says the payments aim to restore worker dignity and rebuild trust after years of uncertainty.
