West African Examinations Council — conducts the Basic Education Certificate Examination in Ghana, enforcing anti-cheating measures and adjusting exam procedures to prevent irregularities.

The West African Examinations Council has implemented heightened anti-cheating measures for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, which began May 4 with over 620,000 candidates across 20,395 schools. WAEC has banned mobile phones, barred supervisors and invigilators under investigation for malpractice, arrested five individuals for exam irregularities, and warned that violations including examination malpractice will result in result cancellations and bans from future examinations.

    Over 37,000 candidates from 808 schools in the Northern Region will sit the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination beginning May 4 at 132 examination centres. The Ghana Education Service has deployed supervisors, assistant supervisors and invigilators to ensure examination integrity, with the regional director urging candidates to comply with rules and avoid malpractice.

  1. GES bans teachers, supervisors from 2026 BECE over malpractice

    The Ghana Education Service has barred all teachers and supervisors implicated in examination malpractice during the 2025 BECE from participating in this year's exercise. The Director-General stressed that individuals being processed for sanctions over last year's irregularities are banned from examination centres, with formal directives communicated to all regional directors and strict compliance to be enforced.
