Ghana Prisons Service

Ghana Prisons Service — government agency managing correctional facilities nationwide, partnering with educational institutions and organizations on inmate rehabilitation and vocational training programs.

The Ghana Prisons Service has expanded rehabilitation and vocational training programmes, partnering with Cape Coast Technical University to offer fashion design, welding, culinary arts, ICT skills, and graphic design to inmates. The Service has also issued a public warning against online impersonation scams targeting citizens, and continues receiving donations of medicines and learning materials to support inmate welfare.

The Ghana Immigration Service's Governing Council is pushing for Operation Secure Our Borders (SECOBOR), a public-private sector initiative to address the service's resource and welfare challenges. The Council Chair briefed President Mahama that weak border control exposes Ghana to smuggling, human trafficking, and illicit trade, and proposed the GIS retain 80% of its internally generated funds for five years to address gaps in accommodation, vehicles, and equipment.
