Ghana's Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah says approximately 8,900 hectares of forest reserves have been completely degraded through illegal mining and other destructive activities, with nine forest reserves among the worst affected. He warned that restoring the areas would require substantial resources and stressed the need for stronger enforcement to prevent further destruction.
