NPP defends rural telephony expansion record against critic claims
The NPP has challenged claims about Ghana's rural telephony programme, stating that the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project was launched in 2020 (not 2022) with a €155 million facility from China EXIM Bank targeting 2,016 sites. The party says an earlier phase deployed 430 sites between 2017–2018 connecting about 700,000 people, and the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration left 1,961 constructed sites and equipment for 400 more sites at the January 2025 handover.
